Mark and Hilary's Kitchen

Mark & Hilary’s kitchen forms part of a traditional Highland Perthshire manse, thoughtfully transformed from a dated 1980s interior into a space more in keeping with the building’s character and scale.

The layout centres around a substantial worktable, complete with integrated wine racking and pull-out dovetailed oak trays — a practical feature that also reinforces the kitchen’s sense of craftsmanship. Above the Rangemaster, an ornate mantle provides architectural presence and anchors the cooking zone with quiet authority.

A 60mm full-stave handmade oak worktop crowns the central table, introducing warmth and weight, while quartz surfaces to the perimeter cabinetry offer durability and refinement. The balance of timber and stone ensures the room feels both grounded and functional.

Fully plywood cabinetry with hand-painted fronts underpins the scheme, bringing structural integrity beneath the traditional detailing. The result is a kitchen that feels restored rather than replaced — generous in proportion, rooted in its setting and built to endure.
