Judith & Simon's Kitchen
This kitchen feels, to us, like the very essence of a Birkwood kitchen.
Fully bespoke and carefully designed to negotiate the charmingly awkward geometry of a traditional South Ayrshire cottage, the cabinetry winds its way around the space with purpose and ease — every corner considered, every inch earned.
Colour is embraced unapologetically here. Confident, joyful, and entirely intentional, it sets the tone for a kitchen that isn’t trying to blend in or play it safe. Existing freestanding appliances were proudly retained rather than replaced with integrated alternatives — a decision we love for both its practicality and personality. And that KitchenAid… which came first, the mixer or the colour choice? We’ll never tell.
Minerva composite work surfaces crown the cabinetry, chosen for their durability and understated good looks, while a rare moment of symmetry appears in the form of a patchwork cabinet, complete with integrated pull-out chopping boards — practical, tactile, and quietly satisfying to use.
Judith and Simon were a genuine pleasure to work with, bringing trust, enthusiasm and a shared appreciation for thoughtful design to the process. A kitchen with character, confidence and heart — just how we like it.
